Bone is lightweight, strong and multifunctional.
One example is the toucan's beak, which makes up one-third of the bird's total length, yet only 7% of its weight.
This beak absorbs kinetic energy, dampens vibration, and acts as a thermal exchanger.
By varying the geometry, we vary the functional behavior of materials. We can make standard materials become high-performing materials: lightweight, customizable, and multifunctional.
By varying the relative density, we vary the intensity of their features.

Until today, lattice structures were only made with additive manufacturing, which faces challenges at scale.
Modulatio's proprietary technology specialises in lattice structures for scaled production without the use of additive manufacturing. This enables the scale-up of lightweight components with geometry and density variation, and a various forms.
Demonstration of casting lattice structures using foundry techniques (shown here is an “octet-truss”; other geometries are possible—such as alveolar and TPMS—and should be selected based on the functions to be prioritized).
It’s based on a well-known process of lost-core molding, reimagined and implementable on existing manufacturing lines.
